Hi,
I wanted to go to an AKC show that has a veteran's class and a regular conformation class. My dog is eligible to compete in the veteran's class and I wanted to sign him up for it. Can he be signed up for a regular class too. The premium list said best of breed veteran is judged after normal best of breed, so it sounds like it is two seperate competitions. Does that mean he can be entered in both. I'd appreciate any help. This is would be our first AKC show and AKC makes me kind of nervous.
Thanks for any help!
Julia

Julia, It would be best for you to only do one entry. This is your first AKC show and you say it makes you nervous, so I strongly recommend only one class. Besides that if you are like the rest of us you are not made of money. Can you be entered in both? Yes. Vets is considered a non-regular class. PLS let us know your decision or what happens. But remember, this is supposed to be FUN - for you and your dog. Relax!! It is not life or death. Mary

Thanks for the advice. I'll let you know how it goes. I'll get over my nervousness one day...well, hopefully. I guess one class would be a lot easier on me and Frosty too. Thank you.

The show went great. I decided to just enter Frosty in the Veterans class and he won. He did a great job showing so we'll be going to another show this month in Novi, Michigan. Hopefully things go smooth again. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks. It actually wasn't so nerve-racking at all. The judge and steward were really nice and I had a great time. I hope it goes this good everytime!

Don't worry, I'll let everyone know how our first agility trial goes. Luckily we have lots of time to practice since it's not till March at the Detroit Kennel Club dog show. The entries opened today at 7:00 am and I wasn't sure about how fast the spaces would fill up. So I made sure I was up at 7:01 to enter on infodog.com so that we're one of the first entries recieved, so there's no going back now. I might have fallen asleep in my psychology class today but it was worth it to make sure we get in!(I would have fallen asleep anyway) Julia

Probably smart, getting it in early, as they are only allowing 300 entries at this trial total. So it sounds like it will be a nice trial for your first one. Not to large!

Nice show, the Detroit KC. It is one of very few "benched" shows remaining. What this means is that the time the show is running, all dogs entered must be on their bench. Are they doing agility this way too?
It can be boring, but not if you can get someone to watch your dog while you go make the tour of the whole thing. Don't forget the vendors!! Mary

I checked witht the show secretary and he said agility only dogs aren't benched. I'm glad for that, I know Frosty would get so bored if he had to stay the whole day, not to mention me being pretty bored too. I'm really looking forward to the trial.
