We had to go back with Shadow (our cat) to have his ears checked now that we no longer give him any ear drops. After just over a week, he is still clear of anything. Next visit is in 2 weeks for another microscope check! Vet is very pleased the way it is turning out now. But we still keep our fingers crossed that it is not food allergies (it will if it comes back any time soon).

Then we got Tako weighed as I thought he was skinny. Vet looked at him. He is perfect. He said I will always think he is skinny because of Nuuk's frame which is totally opposite from him.

Nuuk on the other hand have gained almost a pound 8o . As soon as we become not as strict with her food intake, she gains.... so fast too. So no more treats for her again (or very little).

He also checked Tako's BSD. It is the same. Not worse which is cool!

He was telling me he was treating a long hair teckel who is in bad shape (teckel showed up not too long after Tako's cushings test). He prescribed the drugs he was going to give Tako's if it was Cushings (same drug treatment with BSD). The dog has bad reaction. Bloats like crazy. Treatment is not working for him so vet is researching on other thing for that poor dog.

I also purchased some Revolution for both dogs since we will be camping a lot in the coming months. We have no ticks (or very little here). But PA is not that far from Montreal. So it means we will (should) get them too. And knowing we have trips to the States, he does not wanna take any chances. Total cost for the 2 boxes is $230cdn. Yikes! I had eyes like this 8o when secretary told me the bill for that. But it's a combination of treatment so it becomes cheaper in the long run then buying individual treatments.

I also talked (we talk a lot can you tell Tongue ) about tick removal and his recommendation was to cover the whole tick with Vaseline. I asked him why as I saw in a few places that you should not use that. He said that because ticks breath by the pores, they will suffocate and die. Whether the head stays in the dog's body once we remove it, it does not make a difference as it will decompose. But we should try to get the head out and it's easy when it's dead. I still prefer no ticks at all.  Smile

As for humans, we discussed this and he said to be very careful for lyme. It does affect people. His recommendation was to try to add vitamin C (don't know if you have those in the US, but it's an orange large pill you dissolve in water and drink it (some can be chewed). The fact that you have extra vitamin C in the body, some of it is "expulsed" by the pores. Research said that bugs hate that smell. It also said that those with higher vitamin C in the system also repelled mosquitoes. Maybe worth a try. I think I'll stick with my Avon Skin So Soft bath oil. Works for me! And it oils the skin to top it off.!

So overall, another interesting vet visit.

Oh yeah. The other new vet when she saw Tako said "oh my gosh - he looks like a mini mine - I have a Samoyed". I said this is an eskie. She said she knew but he looked so much like hers but in small. She did not see Nuuk as she was waiting in the SUV. So once we were done with Tako, Sylvain exchanged them and got Nuuk in the office. That vet lady came in to ask a question and she saw Nuuk. The face she had.... at 1st she did not understand... I joked that every time she'd open the door, the bigger the eskie would be.... maybe turning into a sammy. She laughed it so hard. She is really a neat vet too.

The dogs never barked even once and it was full house in there (dogs barking, cat miaowing). When I told them to sit on the scale, not a hair moved. My vet was impressed at how much they changed for the better. For the oldies (in the sense of being longer on the board), you will remember that Nuuk was a total nut in there. Vet knew we would be there without even seeing us by just hearing her big mouth yapping away. Not anymore.  Cool

Even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there!

I'll have to try the orange juice.  I thought the skeeters didn't bother Kirk because he has Diabetes (which could be true) but maybe it's because he drinks juice when he needs to bring his sugar up which can be a few times a day often more.

I'm not too sure about the Vitamin C. I mean, the dogs get it in the food, supplements, plus they make some on their own and they still have mosquitoes buzzing all around them. I might consider trying a can of "Mosquito Halt".
