I've been reading through all the postings which have been very helpful!

But there are some things that are a little scary...."blowing coat", "adequate vacuum for picking up fur"

I live in Ontario, Canada, so our cold season is just starting.  I expect the coat blowing to start in about four or five months.

My previously eskie coat blowing was very gradual and we had no major problems.  I suspect with Buddy, there is going to be a lot more hair around the house.

I'm bracing myself.

I would not worry until it comes. I live in Montreal and I don't think the seasons had anything to do with this or very little.  ?(

Nuuk is a heavy shedder mostly all-year round. I brushed her today and picked up a big handful of hair. She does not mat so if falls easier on the ground.

Takoda looses very little in comparison. Did Tako too today and almost nothing at all. When he sheds, it seems to make tiny little knots so it does not fall but if I don't brush, I'm in big trouble.

In the house, it seems worst as we have 3 cats and 2 dogs. So all do have lots of hair to loose.

If you brush Buddy on a regular basis, it should not be so bad either. I am not very regular at this but if I did, it would be less of a problem too. Smile

Yes you will probably brush a few full brushes during the most of the shedding season but it is always manageable, especially if you have only one "furry" animal in the house.

But I do vaccum every 2 days or so and yes even after 2 hours after vaccum is done, it could be redone. And we have central air system... imagine what our filters look like.

But what's white tumbleweeds when you have a huggable pal all-day long to kiss, play and have a blast with (ok some moments you'd trade him/her for anything better). Big Grin

I live in Southern Ontario as well and don't really notice the seasons affecting the blow so much.  I just took Tundra to the groomers on Friday because he was beyond "fixing" for me.  Now he looks beautiful and I can keep up with him now.  If he gets to be too much just take him for a good brush out at the groomers.

As Little Boy has gotten older, he has gotten more furry.  And the shedding is pretty constant.  We should brush him more too (he doesn't like it) so we get 1 or 2 dogs a week out of the carpet.  And when I do brush him, I can't count the brushfuls of fur..

I got lucky.  Gypsy doesn't shed much, so far.  When I brush her there's not much in the brush even.  No matting issues either which is odd because when we found her she was loaded with them on her rear, behind her ears and in her arm pits.  I think it was due in part to her scratching at the fleas she had.  She would spin like a top on her rump high up near her tail to itch the fleas she could not reach, poor little thing.
