Ok, I'll introduce myself too.
I'm Debbie. I'm 43 and live in Northwest Indiana, not far from Chicago. I'm single and live with my still-a-puppy Lucy and my temperamental reskie Lola. I bought my house about a year and a half ago after living with my mom all my life, and I'm still in the process of fixing up the house and paying off credit cards from the move. I have a cockatiel that still lives with my mom because I thought she could use the company when I left.
I teach math at two local colleges-- full-time at the community college and part-time at the university. I'm also Dept. Chair for Developmental Mathematics (fancy words for remedial) at the community college. In December I will have been at my job for twenty years.
I got Lucy last summer, and she's the first dog I've had since I was a kid. She was (and still is) a challenge because I am not, shall we say, firm enough with her. That's why I never had a child, because I knew it would grow up to become a menace to society. LOL I jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire to get Lola, who was an abused rescue. She was very sumbissive when I first got her, but now I'm having problems with her protecting me too fiercely when other people are around. We're working on the agression, and also basic obedience, with a private trainer, and I'm also using the same obedience techniques on Lucy. It's slow going, but I can see progress.
I've always been quite shy with people, and my eskies have helped me in so many ways. They got me out into the community (both online and real life) and I have met some wonderful people as a result.
