Lorelei, our 14-yr-old shih tzu, crossed the rainbow bridge today.  She has been blind for several years, and has had arthritis in her spine.  For the past year or so, we had been noticing signs of dementia.  When she wasn't barking at the walls, she was sleeping.  For the past week, she didn't even bother going back to her bed to sleep.  She just laid down next to the food and water dishes and slept.

My mom and I decided that it was time and we took her in today.

In her better days

Hi Debbie,

I'm so sorry...

Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word happy would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness. It is far better take things as they come along with patience and equanimity.
