Poor Sugie. We're at the point where I'm practically feeding her by hand or a spoon. She's having trouble getting the food from the bowl into her mouth. She doesn't have any bottom teeth and she's trying to sort of gum it in, but that doesn't really work too well. She also doesn't see  or smell stuff very well, so I'm trying to give her more smelly food and now I'm having to put more liquid in her food bowl because I don't think she sees or remembers about her water bowl.

If anyone has any tricks to make it easier for Sugar to get the food in her mouth, I'd be really grateful.

More and more, Sugar is reminding me of my dad when he had Alzheimer's and it's breaking my heart. But she still loves to eat, so I'm holding on to that.

You can try feeding her canned food if you're not already. It smells better to dogs and if you warm it up in the microwave a bit, it enhances the smell. You can also add some water or low sodium chicken broth to it to make it more "soupy" and easier to just lap up like water. You may have to feed her smaller meals more frequently, but its worth a try.

That's all I can think of, too, is to make it more soupy. You could even put stuff in a blender and make it like baby food consistency.  My dogs LOVE turkey baby food!

Canned food also had a lot of water content in it so when my older boy was only eating that and not really drinking my vet was OK with that.

Thanks everyone. All good ideas. I've got her mostly on canned (or my own soft) food now and I guess it's just going to be a soupy mess from now on. My vet also suggested the chicken broth. But I must say I think my little princess kind of likes having me hand feed her!
