Normally my critter kids just get a new toy and/or favorite treat for their birthday but I've never had a puppy and Tiger Lilly is turning one on the 27th and that's a big deal in the human child world so why not the critter kid world as well, right? lol  She's gonna' have a couple friends come over and I thought it'd be fun to have a cake too.  The dog bakery down the street from me wants $20 for a cake so despite not having any talent when it comes to cooking I thought I'd try to make one myself.  So does anyone have any easy recipes for a dog friendly cake?

Here is the recipe for I use for Casper's barkday cake. It's super easy.
1 cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup shredded carrots
1 tsp vanilla
1/3 cup honey
1 egg

Mix together flour and baking soda. Add everything else and mix well. Put non-stick spray on a baking pan and pour the cake batter in. Bake for 40 minutes at 350 degrees or until a toothpick comes out clean when you poke the cake in the middle.

You can puree low fat cottage cheese to use for icing. Or even yogurt or cream cheese. Carrot pieces or dog candy sprinkles can be used to decorate it, too.

Here's a link to the Recipes thread with pupcake, treat and barkday cake recipes, including pics: http://forum.eskie.net/index.php/topic,11526.0.html  My friends might think I'm nuts, but I always have little barkday parties for our dogs' birthdays or gotcha days and the treats and cakes (or pupcakes) are really not that expensive to make if you get a little creative.  And the doggie guests are so appreciative!  Happy

Casper's blog even shows one of his cakes with his name spelled out in carrot slices!  I'm guessing that he only got small-ish pieces of it every day for quite some time.

That's too funny! I had the idea of decorating the cake by writing out "Happy Bday Lilly" or something with small carrot sticks from the beginning 'cause I know Tiger Lilly loves carrots....she tries to steal them from the rabbits so I just give her her own small piece of carrot so everyone has their own Smile.
Thanks for the suggestions on the cakes and the link to that thread.  I hope this goes well and doesn't end up as a candidate for the Cakewrecks blog lol.  I still have plenty of time to figure things out and experiment Smile
