Ok, so the give command is coming along which I am very thankful for, but he does have some other issues.  First of all, he tries to attack anything with wheels.  There is a trail that people walk, bike and run on in our town and he tries to attack the bikers which is embarassing but what terrifies me is when he runs toward cars driving down the road.  We don't have a fenced in yard so we always take him outside on a leash, but if he ever escapes out of the house (and he has once) he doesn't listen to is "come" recall.

Also, he does the same thing with the two rescue greyhounds across the street.  In fact, he ran across the road to get to them the time he escaped!  It scared me to death.  The lady that owns the greyhounds says they are not "small dog safe." They are always barking at each other and I was wondering if there was a way for them to get use to each other.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Brandi

if she thinks her dogs are not small dog safe then you cant acclimate them together because she probably wont go along wih it.

but you can work on desensitizing, and the quiet command with him, that might help.

as far as wheels, snowball is 7 and loathes anthing moving faster than her so if you find a solution, i'm curious to hear it!

for a great understanding on desensitizing and dealing with both of issues you are having, read "the dog who loved too much"

http://www.amazon.com/Dog-Who-Loved-Too-Much/dp/0553375261

it is an awesome book written by a vet/behaviourist.

to prevent household escapes, can you gate of the front door, so he is not allowed near the door?

Both Chester and my last Eskie hated cars, or anything moving too fast. It's probably prey drive. Chester got loose once and chased a pickup, the driver was nice enough to just stop. As soon as he stopped, Chester stopped also. Then the come command worked. After the car is gone, Chester will do zoomies in the front yard for a minute or 2. I've seen recommendations like having a passenger toss water on the dog, but I've never tried that. I did try a squirt with a garden hose with little effect (stopped the zoomies). I thought about a vibratiing collar, don't know if that would work. Chester will literally sit in the yard looking and listening for cars. He looks like a yard ornament out there. He is always on a lead outside.

Thanks for the advice.  I looked up the book and read the intro, I am definitely going to get it.  My neighbor mentioned squirting him with a water bottle when he tries to go after the cars, so I may try that too. If I find something that works, I will let y'all know.
