Koby is one of Mona's puppies, Murdock's littermate brother.  He was sold to a couple in Quebec and they are having problems with him.  My thought is that he has gotten control of the family and they are now afraid of him.  They said that they "sent him away" for training but nothing was said about training for themselves.  So they made the decision to send him back to me.  I am going to get him later this week and bring him home and work with him.  I want to find out if he actually has a problem or if they were his problem.  Then I will find him a home.  We will see what happens.

Wishing Kody good luck in finding him a forever home.  Hershey Kiss

Too bad they did not want to give it another chance to work with some of the excellent trainers/behaviourists that I could have referred them to.

Poor Koby,
  I wish we could take on another right now but I can't until we have two less cats.

Sorry to hear this, but it sounds like this is the best solution. I hope you are able to find him a forever home real soon!

Yes I place my money on them being the problem. They had to leave a camp ground becasue he was barking. He is one dog. They can't get one dog to stop barking? And they say they have a good trainer, their version of Cesar Milan. But how does sending him away for training fix the problems at home? He bit the woman twice in one week. How many people have had a healthy, well bred dog that they have had since he was a puppy bite them? Mine snap at me once and that is the last time. I am sure Koby just needs to be somewhere that he knows he is not the boss!

He is coming home on Thursday - first problem will be that he doesn't know English.  His owners are from Quebec so he knows French.  After he learns English, I doubt that I will have any problems with him.  But then I will want to find him a home.  So, everyone, keep your ears open.  He is 13 months old, a mini, neutered and up to date on shots.  I will have to find out if he is microchipped or not.  I think that we will not have any problems with him.

Carol,

It should not be a problem with language. Ask owner what he did for gestures when asking Koby to do something. Dogs are more visual then our verbal.

I have friends who have both French and English pets in Montreal and it was never an issue. Katia my cat was anglophone and never really had issues with understanding us, and we had changed her name from Dream to Katia.

Tammy handled Nuuk and Takoda for fun during fun match and they followed her even if she was talking English to them. So it should not be too hard.

If Kooza had not been coming over, I would (could) have taken him to us and see what the problem is/was. I'm sure I could have found a home for him with time too. Not always easy as they are not well known in Quebec but doable. I'll keep my eyes opened if someone is looking for one. It's just that timing is too short right now. Bummer.

Good luck.

Always sad when it does not work out, but he is still quite young, so training and re-homing should not be too difficult.  Can't wait to see pictures of the little guy..hint hint hint.

I can always ask on my French board and see if someone would be interested. It could avoid the trip to you. I'd certainly need a picture as it "sells" more.

they train police dogs in german, so language shouldnt be a problem. and they always told us in puppy class, you could train them that "green" means sit, or some other such nonsensical word, they dont "understand" like we do. it's the connotation with the word.
and also true, puppy classes start with hand signals and words then move just to words. koby will be just fine. he'll learn from your crew, too.

I figured language might be a problem when asking him to sit or stay but when letting him know who is boss he doesn't need the language, just the tone. Obviously he didn't "get it" in french anyway. I assure you he will "get it" in english.

Sit = (assis) = a ss-e (no space between the "s" but here it would have put *** instead)
Stay = (reste) = Rest
Down = (Couche) = kou-shhh
Come = (Viens) Vee-in

Voilą! You just learned quickly 4 basic commands Smile

Maybe that's why Boone ignores me when I give him commands - he's a closet Frenchman!  That would explain why he is always "kissing" all the women in my family.  (I actually taught him to "kiss" on command.  that way I can make him stop doing it too.)

Sorry to hear he's coming back home for now and that you have to correct someone else's mistakes, but I'm really glad that they didn't just give him up at a shelter. Please let us know how everything goes tomorrow and onward!
