Hi all
I am an old guy new to this forum so forgive me if this question has been asked.  My American Eskimo  Snowball is almost ten years old and is having a little trouble with his back. The last bone in the vertebrae has less cushing than it used to. He is only in pain getting up on the furniture. Otherwise he is in excellent health. Doctors recommend Phycox for all four of my babies since all are seniors. Anyone out there have experience with this medicine? He is also currently on Rimadyl for a short period of time. Snowball is 30.6 lbs and can still go for walks in the park without any back pain.
Thanks

Is Snowball overweight?  Does the Rimadyl help his back pain?

I am not famliar with Phycox.  My vet has my dogs on Cosequin, then upgraded to Dasequin when that came out.  I use Rimadyl for the dogs, but long term it didn't work out as it can cause bleeding ulcers and of course my dog ended up getting those.  I'll ask my vet next time I see her if Phycox is an alternative to Cosequin or Dasequin or if it is completely different.

Definitely keep up the exercise...muscle strength is important to keep things moving for the long term.

I take my dogs to a doggie chiro and when needed to a pain therapist.  Both of those routes have worked wonders, but are a commitment both financially and timewise.

Snowball is not overweight at 30.6 lbs and the others Cocker Spaniel and the two Corgis are not overweight. The Phycox was given for bone health much like glucosamine is given to humans. I have not heard of this product before.
