Willie broke his toe and is now sporting his brand new splint. I have no idea how it happened other than it was a few days ago while he and the other 3 dogs were playing. How the heck does a dog break his toe anyway??? He had been hopping around on 3 legs (and that didnt even slow him down) and didnt seem to be getting any better, so I took him in to the vet this morning. He broke one of the middle toes on his back paw. No surgery was required, but they did have to sedate him in order to splint it properly. He is home now and is still pretty groggy, but otherwise getting around just fine. Here he is with his new splint.

That's an awfully big cast for one toe, isn't it?  He doesn't look too happy either.  Poor baby!

Hey, Willie, I feel for you.  I've been in one of those things for most of my little life.  If you really want to get out of it, let me know.  I'm an expert.  Smile

Poor Willie. Looks like that cast is going to put a bit of a damper on his fun for a while. How long does he have to wear it?

Im not sure. I guess it depends on how quickly he heals, but probably around 4 weeks or so. He has to go back in a week to change the splint and check up on things. He's still pretty out of it from the sedation, but Im sure by tomorrow he'll be hopping around again like he was this morning.

Because he's not. Normally he is pretty mellow, but today he is tearing around the house, jumping on and off the couch, up and down stairs. I cant get him to stay still and relax! Funny thing is that he is doing all this on 3 legs! He holds his leg with the splint up when he runs and jumps. Silly boy! Its going to be a long 4 weeks...

Poor Willie is right..... Frown  I never realized a dog could break a toe that easily.  I hope that his recovery is easy and uneventful.  I have had my share of broken bones and leg injuries here...you have my total sympathy...lol!

Aww...poor baby!  Frown  That IS an awfully big cast for a broken toe!  Riley sympathizes.  He's spent almost the entire past two summer in casts and leg bandages--definitely no fun when you can't take long walks or go swimming for weeks and weeks.  He and Kody send Willie lots of get well  Hershey Kiss Hershey Kiss Hershey Kiss!
