For the Eval Kooza went to Indy, then we went to Louisville (Hotel) and the drove rest of the way in to Nashville.  He was the perfect little traveler.  Had his crate seatbelted in the middle of the back seat, where he could see me and he just was a quite as a mouse the entire trip.  He mostly just slept, but everytime we stopped he was ready to get out and walk around.and go potty.  He has yet to have an accident anywhere.  He either waits to go outside or he goes to the wee wee pads we have set-up in the x-pen in my sisters house.  Every one in my family is really impressed that he is house trained and crate trained so young. He sleeps in his crate at night without a wimper or cry, as long as he has Tiger (his stuffed buddy).

X-pen is downstairs where puppy sleep in his crate last night and Tasha and I went upstairs to guest room.  Brother-In-Law was downstairs this am drinking coffee and reading newspaper for about an hour before we came down.  When we did, Kooza came out of his crate and Barked "loud" and made brother-in-law  jump, as he thought he was upstairs with us.  He was impressed how quite he was the entire time.  I then took him outside and he immediately went potty outside.  What a Good Boy!!

Since in Nashville he has met over 25 family members being passed, held and  played with. I had several who even wanted to buy him and take him home.  They were disappoointed to find out that he was going to become a Canadian.  My 18 year old niece wanted me to give him to her for her Birthday in a couple days.  Lol!     NOT!!!

Anyway...Helene I'm getting him primmed for those N & T Tours.   Hey...won't they now have to be the N,T and K Tours?

Goooood. 'Cause he'll be a lot in the car with us and when we go out, we rarely leave the dogs home. They are already informed that when we visit, it will be an extra dog and they're all ok with that. hihi

Yep. Will need to change the name of the tour. But that not a problem at all either. hihi

Good job Tammy on the training and to Kooza for being such a good boy.

He sounds like a wonderful boy!  Do you have to do anything special to be transferring him to Canada?

To bring a pup under 12 weeks to Canada: only need the clear health check from vet and the bill I paid for the dog (of course they want to charge you the maximum at customs in fees, and 14% taxes). If over 12 weeks, then he needs rabies shot as well.

I can get away with rabies right now as he would 10-11 weeks.

Makes me ask What is the lowest cost that you need to declare customs on?

I don't know what it is in the US but the lowest cost of a service here legally is $1.00.

I called them up a few minutes ago asking them "what if it is a gift?" as I heard people say you don't pay anything on a gift. How do we calculate the duties or taxes? That's bull according to person I had on the phone.

Woman replied that we have to go with what the market is for a pure bred dog. Yeah right. As if they really know. No one has the same price.

If you're out of Canada for 48hrs (but less than 7 days) I can spend $400 (each human but can't split unsplittable goods ie. a dog hihi or a bottle of wine). The dog is considered "goods" so I can deduct its cost from my allowance. So what most people I know do is play with numbers so you end up paying no taxes on the purchased "goods". Customs can't do anything if they have nothing else to prove you wrong.

But one thing I would never try is sneak in a dog without declaring it. Some do, or simply say the dog traveled with them back and forth. That I would never do. Too risky as you may get your dog confiscated. I would never dare that. Ever. Not worth it.

She said as long as I had a bill and vet check, I would be fine. As for taxes collected at customs, it's in the hands of whoever welcomes us back.

When my puppy went to Quebec, I gave the new owners two bills of sale: one for the actual price of the dog and one that was much lower.  They were never asked for the bill of sale at the border so did not have to pay any taxes on the puppy.

The amount for the US is $800/person with the total for the family calculated so we don't have to worry about 'unsplittable' goods.  And the trick is that souvenirs don't count toward the $800/person limit.  Jewelry, leather goods, watches, wines, alcohol are really what they want us to pay duties on.

As for taxes collected at customs, it's in the hands of whoever welcomes us back.
Same here.  Dan and I have bought some pretty significant taxable items, declared the proper values, and not had to pay.  Yet we have gotten pulled for the agricultural inspection time and time again with nothing even remotely declared that would suggest our bags should be inspected and no lies there either. I think there is something in Dan's demeanor that says "inspect me" Roll Eyes
