Yep…Wendell visited Canada for the first time since he started to tour and he stopped at our home.
Being the only Montrealer in Quebec, since no one lives in NH nor Maine that we know, or at least active members, I figured I would be pointed as the host almost on day 2 (day 1 gave little clues). No matter what pic I took from the 3 areas, it always had a way too good clue to give me away instantly. I did not want to play the game too hard as I know we lose interest too fast when nothing decent can be found but I had to somewhat think really hard as most places had names or were too easily recognizable. And I just could not put pictures of a mountain or just trail right!!! That would not helped anyone at all. hihi
I even digged my own information and copied some of the info. You simply had to copy/paste it to be able to find out all about those, most of the time anyway. That was how easy it was.
So Sylvain and I took Wendell with us camping on our June vacation. It was soooo hard not to be able to post pics and videos of N&T traveling or talk about future plans coming in 2 weeks as it would sell me instantly. hihi But I had no choice to zip it til now in order not to blow away my cover! hihi
So here we go.
1)The mount you see is Mount Washington from an observation area. We are in New Hamphire. We had just arrived at our campground earlier.
2) 3) and 4) We went hiking on a trail called Mt Lafayette (I could not help but grin when Kathy came up with the Yette explanation. (If I had left all the names on the little board, I was found instantly – at least the area – which would have led to me) and when we started in that trail, it was sooo rocky and risky and we did not have our hiking boots on so we turned around. Especially with my injured/trying to heal shoulder, it was not time to injure myself. So Wendell was right to whine all the way. Hihi
5) We then stopped at WilleyHouse Historical site. They sell some of the best ice cream in the little house turned into small restaurant/souvenir shop. We went there a few times already. There is a lot of story for this area.
6-7) In front of the WilleyHouse, they have a picnic area with a fishing pond, with ducks and all. This is where N&T could swim on those very hot days! They absolutely loved it and the people had huge grins watching them swim. Of course, poor Wendell could not get into that water. Bummer!
8-9) Then we went another hiking trail. Beautiful!!!! It leads us to that fall: Pemi Trails
10) The car ride one was just for the fun on one of our stops to look at the views!
11)This one is the Silver Cascade (I simply erased cascades to make it not obvious to google image). But still easy for those CSIs with skills.
12) AhHA! That one was taken in the Maine during the 2nd part of the trip. Just to confuse Eskie members some more. hihi It is called Sand Beach in the beautiful Acadia National Park. Beautiful beach. But we did not got closer to it because we were running out of time.
We went back to NH for our 2nd part of our week’s vacation.
13) If people did their homework from the previous pics, they would have found out very easily that this was the East Branch & Lincoln in New Hampshire.
14) This is a stop on the scenic drive that explains how the east met the west. We were looking southwest toward the Merrimack Watershed. That is the Westward Journey to the Atlantic that Jen could not understand. It a few words, it is water running down the slopes into the Hancock Branch, which flows into the Pemingwasset River. The Pemi drains intothe Merrimak River Watershed before it reached the Altlanic Ocean near Portmouth, New Hampshire.
15) We then made a stop at Storyland. That too was very easy to find with google!
16) Now back to Montreal. This is the famous Formula 1 race track and Nascar called Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in honor of our own Quebec racedriver who died while racing. Right now, they will start preparing for the Nascar race. The F1 is in June. In-between, it is opened to public for in-line skating, cycling, and car have one line opened for them.
17) It is called the "Quebec Wall". A particularly famous part of the circuit is the wall on the outside of the exit of the final chicane. In 1999 the wall, which has on it the slogan Bienvenue au Québec ("Welcome to Quebec") giving it the nickname "Mur du Québec" (Quebec Wall), ended the race of three Formula One World Champions, Damon Hill, Michael Schumacher & Jacques Villeneuve along with FIA GT champion Ricardo Zonta. Since then the wall has been nicknamed "The Wall Of Champions". In recent years Jenson Button (2005) and Vitantonio Liuzzi (2007) have also fallen victim to the wall. Fernando Alonso 2005/06 F1 World Champion and Nico Rosberg have also both hit the wall at turn 5. Juan Pablo Montoya has also hit a wall on the circuit.
18) We then went in one of the buildings near my job in downtown Montreal. It is called L'Atrium Le 1000. Very very nice inside skating rink! If you had type 1000 skating rink in google, it would have come out as 1st item!
19) We have a China Town, amongst many "villages" in Montreal. This is one is the most popular one.
20) We visited the Windsor Station. Windsor Station was the Canadian Pacific Railway's (CPR) headquarters built between 1887 and 1889. It costed $2million then to build it. We're talking over 100 years ago. It is very nice to see. They have bal rooms now in there. Lots of large companies (like ours at work) have their xmas company parties there. Just amazing!
21) Statues were from the inside. The Canadian Railroad should be a good hint that it was a Canadian if you did not catch that one up yet!
22) This is our Notre-Dame Basilica. Where Céline Dion got married in 1994. Built in 1821.
23) It is the Chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours. It is in Old Montreal (Kathy, you surely remember seeing this and the Basilica above when we showed you around old Montreal.
24) Montreal Bell Center, where we have our own hockey team the Montreal Canadians. They celebrated their 100th anniversary last year and honored the biggest hockey of it’s history. In this pic, you can see Maurice, the Rocket, Richard in the front.
25) Is no one else but the number for Patrick Roy, the goal tender. He still remains the best goaltender Montreal ever had (and still Sylvain’s hero by far). He is now retired, after a successful career with the Colorado Avalanche team. He now has his own hockey team and his the coach of that team.
26) It is the Biosphere. It is the former pavilion of the United States for the 1967 World Fair Expo 67. It is now used as an interactive exhibits aimed at increasing understanding of major environmental issues such as air, water, biodiversity, climate change, sustainable development and more.
27) Last but not the least, it is the famous N&T surf board. J
Voilà. We were very happy to have the pleasure of sharing pics of the NH, ME and Montreal with you. Wendell will now surely be ready for something less strenuous, although he may find his little card box a bit crowdy now. hihi
