Hi everyone!!! I hope your babies are staying active and healthy, even though they might be senors. My Gigi is deteriorating fast since my last post. For the past 2 weeks, she is having more motion problems, and have accidents in the house often. I thought it is all part of aging. After all she is 17 now. Besides our vet gave her a clean bill of health except dematia. Sicne two days ago, I noticed she is having more trouble walking.... stumbles al the time and fall over and over again. Her head begain to tilt to the left at all times, and almost seems to be paralyzing on her left side. My gut feeling tells me that she might be at the end of her journey. Please pray that if God is taking her to the Rainbow Bridge sooner than I expected, please lessen her sufference and God just takes her breath in one swift second. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your prayers. Jazzie

It does sound like you have a decision to make. And not a very easy decision. But you have to decide if her quality of life is what is should be. Is she is pain? If you think that she is "suffering", then you need to make the decision. Good luck!! I hope that it is not time. You could take her to the vet's too and see what he says. Please keep us informed.

If you have a good vet, it may be worth a visit to have Gigi checked again. At 17 and with the issues you mentioned things could well be deteriorating at this point...so a recent checkup is entirely in the past right now. Your vet would hopefully be able to give you better insight into what may be happening.
But with constant head tilting and apparent paralysis, it sounds like a possible stroke, or other serious issue, may have occurred as well. None of that is pleasant, but if you know what's happening, then you and your vet can discuss options. That may include medications, treatments, or whatever.
But regardless, 17 is a long life for an eskie; you've had many shared joys and made memories together. If it is nearing the end, you have a lot to embrace, and it's not easy. But if you have more time together, every day and every moment are all the more special.
And we do all hope and pray that if her time is coming that she eases to the bridge peacefully. But for now, you can only do all you can do....and only time will tell what exactly will happen. Our hearts and best wishes are with both of you.

What Michael just posted is so wise and so consoling. Yes - take Gigi to the vet again and see what's what. And let us know. We're here for you. Thoughts and prayers sent your way.

Hi everyone,
Thank you so much for your compassion for Gigi.
We did take her to the vet....best she could do for now is 'watch and wait'. ...it could very well be a stroke, from what my husband and I gathered, as her head tilting is much approved, and starts to jump around like her usual self.
However, she seems to have lost 95% of her hearing...and tend to get extremely disoriented in the yard. I watched her turning cirles over and over again....for some reason couldn't get herself out of that circle. So, she started sobbing in desperation. Since I had a broken anckle and coldn't rushed to her as fast as I could. It was heartbreaking watching her do that. I do, however, accompany her and guide where she needs to go and does her business 99%.
However, as you mentioned, Michael, 17 yrs is longevity for an Eskie or any other dogs. Our lab/collie mix only lived to be 9. ' From the bottom of my heart, I appreciate each an everyone's input. It is so comforting knowing I'm not alone here. We do treasure each and every second we have with her as always, especially now. She is our first pet that we brought up since she was only a pup....a precious gift my husband brought home for me the month I fell ill from a debilating illness which has no cure. We're also preparing ourselves for the unevidable.
Tbhaks again, and happy weekend.
Jazzie

Thank you, my precious Eskie family.
I'm happy to report that Gigi is hanging on....we had another close call last week, she vomitted all her meals of the day, and last go was all bloody. Within 2 days she bounced back. Even though her hip problem often causes her to fall to sitting position, but once she gets back in the house, she dances around as if all is okay with her. What a fighter!!!
Looking for adopting a Eskie pup still....any idea where should I go in Central California?
Lots love and happy thoughts, Jazzie

How is your precious little Gigi gal pal doing nowadays? We had a very long last half year with our 15 and a half year old eskie. Afterwards, I remembered that I'd recently read online that "when they stop walking" that the end is nigh... But like you mention in your postings, our eskie bounced back MANY times. I didn't realize fully realize how very little he walked on his last 3 days, because I frankly was so busy & preoccupied with him. His sense of smell NEVER left, and although his appetite decreased, he still ADORED food... particularly all that prime rib & steak he got to eat in his final months, it made him delieriously happy. I didn't realize that senior dogs can get dementia, so am unsure what you mean. I hope things are going well for you and your beloved old dog. Be sure to take care of YOU, too!
