I recently got a program for my iPhone called "Tapatalk." It is a program designed for reading online message boards via phone (instead of using Safari). I am using it to read another forum and it is great! Do you know if Eskie Board is compatible with it?

Interesting. I'd never heard of it, but not surprised there are apps like that out there. According to their website, it *should* be compatible for the forums here.....but.....I need to do two things. First, I should do some service updates to bring the forum up to the latest release version (which I need to do anyway). And second, I'd need to apparently download and "activate" the application/feature for the forums. Supposedly it's free, and if it's not much hassle, I can give it a whirl. However, I'm just curious if others are interested in this as well?

Likewise, I've been wondering how mobile access has been working for those that do access the forums from a mobile unit? Are there things that could use improvement in that respect? Does the forum work better on certain devices than others?

I'll see what I can do, Yukon, but in the meantime any further input on this aspect of forum access is more than welcome here. Thanks...

I use a Palm Pre and this forum is kinda a pain on there, so I don't usually check it with my phone. I can read and post, but everything is extremely tiny and I have to do a ton of zooming on every page to do anything.

i have verizon, and a samsung rogue and the same problem. i mostly check facebook, sports scores, and the weather on the phone, everything else is too small and requires too much zooming and stuff. the forum is readable but a pain and i usually dont need to get on it that badly.

For the *size* issue, does it seem to just be *this* forum, or a lot of them? I'd have to see if I can make any adjustments that'd apply only for mobile users to make that better, as I'm not sure what it'd take. But the more I know what to look into the better.

Thanks....

For me, it's not just this forum. Anything that I have to use the browser for (Safari) is small. The only things that come up in a readable size are those specifically for mobile use that I added as "apps".

It sounds like this Tapatalk might be a program that works with various discussion boards so you don't have to have a separate mobile app for each of them.

Ditto to what Kathy said.  An alternative to using Safari to check this board on my iPhone would be loved.

Safari (on my iPhone) works much better than my internet browser or google reader on my blackberry. I do read the forum pretty often on my iPhone, and it gets the job done. It is a pain having to zoom in, and I find that when I zoom in I will hit links by accident (like the report to moderator button, whoops!  Tongue) and then have to go back and find the post again, etc. But I manage ok -- I brought up Tapatalk because I really liked how much more convenient it was than zooming in on Safari.  I only read two forums -- this one and the one that has Tapatalk, so I don't know if other forums have the same issue.  I do have the same issue with respect to zooming in on other internet pages and finding the right links, etc.

Tapatalk helps to manage multiple message boards and to read them more easily.  You don't have to zoom in because the size text is uniform (and legible), and it makes it easier to scroll through pages or new posts. It has a program function that lets you read just new posts, and automatically scrolls to the new post (like the "unread posts" link and "new" links we have on the internet version of the board). So far I have been very pleased with how Tapatalk has worked.

Facebook is the point of comparison that I would offer -- I use the Facebook iPhone app because it is so much easier than using Safari internet to read Facebook on my iPhone; no zooming, and the app builds in easier ways of dealing with moving between pages, typing, etc. Tapatalk does something very similar for message boards. There may be other similar programs out there, I'm not sure. I am also not sure if it works for devices other than iPhone.

I use my Blackberry from time to time but it's kind of a pain so I don't use it unless I'm not going to be around a computer for a long period of time.

I use my Blackberry from time to time to read new posts. It's not too bad to use, however of course it's much easier to view and reply to posts on a regular PC/Laptop. I can read and reply to posts, no problem from my BB.

I just tested this out on a few of my forums. Two were just as bad for zooming, but the other (nascarcamping.com a vBulletin board) did seem to have a little bit better viewing on my Pre. Not sure if it is they type of board or just a setting they have.
