We've got a mystery on our hands:

-- Dusty started lactating today, well, probably yesterday but we noticed it today...
-- She has gained some weight...
-- Dusty & Kittee were both in heat back in February.  GG showed signs of being in heat at that time too but went into heat again about 3 or 4 weeks ago.

We're going to bring Dusty into the Vet tomorrow to see if she's pregnant but... she never showed any outward signs of being in heat since February and Rev never gave any indication there was a bitch in heat until GG came into season.

What is the likelihood Dusty is having a false pregnancy?

Added:  Dusty is also panting a lot more than any of the other dogs - it's 67 degrees in the house and 64 outside right now.

If she was in heat in Feb and bred on 2/27 her whelping date would be 5/1. Since we are almost halfway into June, her puppies would be 6 weeks old.   Based on a heat date in Feb, I dont think she is pg.

As far as a false pregnancy that usually occurs while she would be carrying pups.

As Mary said... if she were in false preganancy you'd think it would have been long over.  I wonder what the likely hood of having back to back heat cycle would be?    Feb and then again in April.   Would have been close to mid April when she was in heat to be showing these signs now.  Tasha was in heat mid April /Bred Apirl 22nd and is due to whelp on June 24th (June 19th - June 24th).       Are you sure she was in heat in February?   She may have pulled a fast one on yah!

Yes, Dusty & Kittee were definitely in heat, GG had some bleeding but may have short cycled as she went into heat again as I said above.  If Dusty was in season in April we never saw any signs and Rev didn't act like he normally does when there's a bitch in heat.  We never saw a tie and Dusty ever show like she was standing for Rev.  Though if we aren't aware they're in heat we don't watch them constantly either....  February was her expected time to be in heat...

Well, the vet should be able to shed more light on the situation tomorrow.  Chris tossed a box with a towel in it onto the floor and she jumped right in rooted around to make a nest....  It's not the end of the world if she is as Rev would be the Dad and they're both A's, they both have decent hips, both champions with decent lineage.  We planned to breed her next cycle anyway this would just move those plans up a bit Smile  Their cycles have shifted around a bit as they seem to be syncing up so I wouldn't be totally surprised but the head scratcher is we saw absolutely no signs of her being in heat and we do keep an eye out for that.

This is going to be very interesting.    We'll have multiple litters on the board at one time, if so.   Can't wait to hear!

There is always the possibility of a split heat....Harmony had that recently....3 weeks in a couple of weeks later she came in again.

Chica had a false pregnancy this year but we had signs right when she would have whelped.  Vet said NOT to allow nesting or stuffed animal adoption.  She got over it in about 2 weeks. Mostly had the lactation not a whole lot of anything else

I have a friend whose eskie has a false pregnancy with every season. The only symptom that i ever hear about though is her "babies", stuffed animals that she chooses every time to be her litter and cares for very carefully. And I don't know when she does this around her cycle. So I am not helpful at all, am I? I will be very interested to hear what you find out at the vet.

She's resting in her box most of the time right now Smile

OK - Just got word from Chris after leaving the vet clinic - Dusty is NOT pregnant.  This makes a lot more sense now. Smile  Though they did say that if she's still acting like this in 3 or 4 weeks we might want to have her checked again...

no thoughts on why she is acting this way?

Kind of a bummer, but I guess since it wasn't a planned a breeding, it is good news.

Girls are just weird sometimes.  (human, dog, whatever species)
