Finally I got to take BOTH dogs to an agility trial!  Shasta's last trial was early December, before she hurt herself later in the month, and she's now back and ready to play.

Saturday:

Jumpers (Kola only, Level 4) was very nice and smooth. Q and 1st place.

Wildcard (Kola only, Level 4) was also very nice and smooth. Except I didn't support one of the jumps (didn't keep my arm out and didn't keep facing the jump) so Kola didn't take it. I didn't fix it because that can slow your dog down in the future, making them worry about getting things right, so we kept going like everything was wonderful and celebrated at the end like usual. We didn't Q, but Kola had done everything I asked of him. I was acting so happy (which I do at the end of every run no matter what) that the judge actually came over and stopped me from leaving the ring to explain that I'd missed the jump and didn't Q.  Poor guy thought he was giving me the bad news. I just smiled and said "I know, but my dog doesn't!"

Jackpot   This was Shasta's comeback run. In Jackpot you can mostly plan your own course, but there will always be a gamble that you have to do. In this case, there were 3 gamble areas (tape on the ground that you can't cross while your dog does obstacles on the other side) and you had to do one of them. I chose the one with just a tire and a tunnel, and did the rest of the course with jumps and tunnels and one dog walk. Both dogs did fabulous, getting the same number of points. Shasta was 0.43 seconds faster than Kola and she got 4th place, beating her brother.

Standard   This was the only course where Shasta did an A-Frame and a Teeter. She ran beautifully for a Q and 3rd place.  Kola ran well also but I wasn't clear enough in one spot and he put his paws on the Dogwalk instead of a tunnel, so we NQ'd.

Snooker  This was all jumps, tunnels, and weaves, but a very tough course.  Both dogs did super. Kola got a Q and 1st place and Shasta Q'd in 2nd place. This time Kola beat his sister by 1.03 seconds.

Sunday:

We went back today just for Snooker.  Both dogs ran smoothly (no EEK!) and Q'd with 44 points.  Shasta was faster by almost a full second.

The interesting thing is that Shasta doesn't actually run faster than Kola, she just follows a more efficient path.  Kola is running faster, but he over-shoots and takes big wide turns. That's mostly my fault for not giving him information sooner on where to go.

So Shasta is down to only needing 10 more Q's for her CATCH (CPE Agility Champion). She needs 2 Standards, 4 Snookers and 4 Jackpots.

I'm really excited because the CPE Nationals are going to be held in Minnesota next summer.  Woo Hoo!!

Wow, congrats on an awesome weekend!!  And yay for Shasta getting back in the game.  Big Grin Big Grin

I didn't fix it because that can slow your dog down in the future, making them worry about getting things right, so we kept going like everything was wonderful and celebrated at the end like usual. I just smiled and said "I know, but my dog doesn't!"

I LOVE this.  Kudos to you for rewarding your dog for a great run, and for looking at the long-term effects on your training rather than just today's Q.  I especially love your reply to the judge!!

Me too! I can only imagine the look on the judges face when you said that!

Congrats on the great weekend!

Wonderful Weekend!!!  Glad Shasta's able to play with mom again!!!

You must keep us updated on that CATCH.  Only 10 Q,s...you can taste it, smell it and just about touch it.   Lol!!  How exciting!!

Tammy, you're soooo right!  I can almost TOUCH that CATCH bar!  My next CPE trial isn't until late July, then August, October, November, and December. Unless I go to Wisconsin or something to try to hurry it up.  It'll probably be November or December when we get our CATCH.

Kola needs about 40 Q's so I'm wondering if he can possibly get it when Nationals come to MN next year. You should come up for that!

If I ever see an agility ring again.  Blah!     I feel like it's been ages since I ran agility.    Frown

Congratulations on such a successful weekend!!!  I'm so happy to hear that Shasta has come back so well from her injury!  I love what you said to the judge when he pointed out that you didn't Q.  That is the kind of attitude that keeps the dog happy and enthusiastic about the sport!

Wow!  Excellent weekend (seems I missed your post before).  I especially like how you handled the NQ and your comments with the judge--Kola will run for you again with joy in his furry little heart.  Happy  I'm sure the judge is used to seeing people leave with an NQ and discipline their dogs.  My errors are usually handler errors--just a matter of figuring out what I did and how my dog was confused.  Tongue

Even with Winston who would blow me off and just run and do his own course (he is smarter then I and knows better) or when he'd shut down and walk the course I'd still always leave it Happy and upbeat.  At a minimum he was one Happy Camper walking back to the chair and crate.  No matter what they do or how they act...We pulled, printed, filled out and mailed the entry form.  They did not, so I have to respect anything they give me.
